Amazing Tech Race!
In collaboration with the Computer and Security Students Association (CASSA) and the Computer Science Students Association (ComSSA)
 

The Story

"Attention all computing students! A wave of cyber attacks has left the Computing faculty in chaos, with vital systems down and areas in blackout. Race against time to solve a series of mini tech challenges and bring the department back online. Do you have what it takes to track down the hacker and save the day?"

 

What is The Amazing Tech Race?

The amazing tech race is an event where teams of students from any year groups compete against each other using nothing but logics, programming and communication in order to catch the elusive hacker! Complete these challenges to earn points and clues to find out who the elusive hacker is!

Claim your prize by completing a series of challenges and be the one who'll save us from the mysterious hacker. Groups from any year group are welcome to join! Engage in awesome challenges and make some friends along the way! Along your journey, you'll meet industry experts and maybe even bump into a lecturer in need of help.

 

Prizes to Win

  • 1st Place of Tier 1 wins $400 + 5x BSides Ticket

  • 1st Place of Tier 2 wins $500 + 5x BSides Ticket

  • 2nd Place of Tier 2 wins $400

(Tier 1 is a challenge level aimed towards first years while Tier 2 is a challenge level aimed towards second to fourth years)

 

Some Challenges You May Face...

  • Crack the Safe: Teams must create an algorithm to crack a safe and recover a clue about the hacker.
  • Code Relay: Teams must solve a series of programming problems in a relay format, with each team member adding or removing a line of code.
  • AI Art Gallery: Teams must deduce which artworks have been replaced with AI generated art.
  • Phish Finder: Identify the phishing email to find out how the hacker got into Curtin.
  • Catch the Mole: Teams are presented with clues and profiles of 5 personal AI assistants of staff; 1 has been reprogrammed to leak security information. Talk to them to find out who the mole is!
  • Discover the Motivations: Teams may find clues about the hacker's intentions in their GitHub.
  • IoT Scavenger Hunt: Teams must find 6 IoT jammers that the hacker has planted around the building and deactivate them using their IPs.
  • Hardware Hustle: Restore vital hardware components of the hacker's personal Arduino to find out what exactly they're trying to achieve.
  • And many more...

 

How to register

  • 1-3 days after purchase you will recieve an email with a registration link
  • Select your challenge level: Tier 1 (First Year Students) or Tier 2 (Second to Fourth Year Students) 
  • To sign up with a teams of 5, enter your team members' names into the registration
  • Or leave them blank and we'll allocate you to a team!
